Althea Garrison

Althea was raised in Georgia and moved to Boston to attend Newbury Junior College, before receiving a B.S. in Administration from Suffolk University and an M.S. in Management from Lesley College. She ran for office ten times unsuccessfully before being elected to represent  the 5th District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. She became the first transgender person to be elected to state legislature in the United States. In 2017, Althea took the at-large seat of Ayanna Pressley after Pressley was elected to Congress. She was not reelected in 2019.
